Remote Online Notarization
Illinois Notarization, Anywhere You Are
A secure audio video session, authorized under Illinois law, for signers who cannot meet in person.
What Remote Online Notarization Is
Remote online notarization is a notarial act completed over a live audio and video session rather than across a table. The notary and the signer are in different places, the session is recorded as the law requires, and the signature and seal are applied electronically.
Because the session is not bound by travel distance, it is available to signers anywhere in the United States and to signers abroad whose document is being used in a way that permits an Illinois remote act. Illini Notary performs remote notarization under Illinois law using an approved platform.
How the Session Works
- 01
Join from a phone or a computer
You receive a link to a secure session. A device with a camera and a microphone is all that is required.
- 02
Verify your identity
You present a current government issued photo identification and complete the identity verification the platform requires.
- 03
Meet the notary on live video
The notary confirms who you are, reviews the document with you to the extent a notary may, and witnesses your signature in real time.
- 04
Sign and receive the notarized document
You sign electronically, the notary applies the electronic signature and seal, and the completed document and the session record are issued.

Questions About Remote Sessions
Remote Notarization Before an Apostille
A document bound for another country often has to be notarized before it can be authenticated. A remote session is frequently the first step in that sequence, particularly for a signer who has already left Illinois.
Remote online notarization is performed under Illinois law through an approved electronic notarization system provider. The session is recorded and the recording is retained as Illinois law requires. A session requires successful identity verification, a camera and microphone, and a stable connection. Some receiving parties do not accept remotely notarized signatures. Confirm before scheduling.
